Skills Training for Employment Programs and Supports

Our Skills Training for Employment Programs and Supports (STEPS) provides participants with in demand skills and certificates to meet local labour market needs.  We offer industry recognized training and courses in security, industry certifications, basic administration, accounting & bookkeeping, post-secondary prep, community support services.  We work with participants to customize their skills training plans and remove barriers to employment including providing personal counselling, driver training supports,  job start clothing and gear, and targeted job search strategies and coaching.

Program Eligibility
  • Not currently working, or in employment that is unsustainable
  • Not a full-time student
  • A resident of the BC Peace River Regional District
  • And identify as one or more of the following underserved populations:
Survivor of Violence and/or Abuse
Recent Immigrant or Visible Minority
Underserved youth (ages 15-30)
Facing 2 or more barriers to sustainable employment

Program Highlights

  • Individualized training plan with tailored financial supports to obtain training to help meet your goals

Training and Support

Basic Office Administration and Computer Skills

This training is highly customizable, depending on your needs, and could include:

  • Basic Computers
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint Certifications)
  • Introduction to accounting / bookkeeping
  • Business communications
  • Keyboarding
Basic Security Training

This certified training teaches you the basic skills required for a career in security, and is offered through the Justice Institute of British Columbia

Industry / Construction Certifications

This training is highly customizable, depending on your needs, and could include:

  • First Aid
  • H2S Alive
  • Confined Space
  • Fall Protection
  • PCST
  • CSTS
Post-Secondary Preparation

This training is highly customizable, depending on your needs, and is focused on bridging the gap to join post-secondary education courses such as college programs and apprenticeships.

Community Support Services

Training and support could include:

  • Food Safe
  • First Aid
  • WHMIS
  • TB Screening Fees
  • Criminal Record Check Fees
  • Non-violent crisis intervention
  • Basics of medication
  • Fee for Medical Exam for Clearance from Doctor
  • First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher if transporting clients for employer
